North Side Learning Center

From the NSLC’s mission statement on their website: “The North Side Learning Center (NSLC) was founded in 2009 and exists to aid in adult and youth literacy development, and to be instrumental in teaching self-sufficiency and self-actualization to newcomers in our community. Students come from dozens of countries around the world.”

“We understand the value of investing in our future by investing in the parents, who if empowered will empower their children, who are the future of our world. Our children deserve our very best, and we have a huge responsibility to motivate, inspire and empower their parents with education and knowledge.”

At the NSLC, Write Out works with New American populations that vary both in age range (elementary through middle school) and English proficiency.

Girls Inc. at the YWCA

Girls Inc. at the YWCA is a community program dedicated to girls ages five to eighteen, particularly historically underserved students in the Syracuse City School District. The program is dedicated to “inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, encouraging girls to take risks and master physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges in order to prepare them to live successful, independent, and fulfilling lives.”

Write Out currently works exclusively with the 9–12 age range at Girls Inc., and the group size varies between ten and twenty students. The group is energetic, playful, and enthusiastic about talking, writing, and sharing.

As we continue to collaborate and partner with community organizations across our city, our programming needs will grow. This section will continue to be updated with new community centers!
